The epic ehr developer / analyst is responsible for the successful implementation, ongoing maintenance, and optimization of assigned epic modules. This role involves collaborating with clinical and administrative staff to understand workflows, translate business needs into system configurations, provide end-user support, and ensure the system's accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.

key responsibilities:

- system implementation & configuration:
- participate in all phases of the epic system implementation lifecycle, including planning, design, build, testing, and go-live.
- configure and customize epic applications and modules (e.g., ambulatory, inpatient, orders, revenue cycle, cadence, radiant, cupid, beaker, tapestry, prelude, bridges) to meet specific departmental and clinical needs.
- assist with data conversion, migration, and validation during implementation projects.
- workflow analysis & optimization:
- analyze existing clinical and administrative workflows to identify opportunities for improvement and efficiency gains.
- work closely with end-users to understand their needs and translate them into epic system configurations.
- develop and implement workflow changes to enhance user experience and productivity.
- support & troubleshooting:
- provide ongoing technical support to end-users (physicians, nurses, administrative staff) for epic applications.
- troubleshoot and resolve system issues, errors, and user-reported problems promptly.
- participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours support as needed.
- testing & quality assurance:
- develop and execute test plans for new epic functionalities, system updates, patches, and upgrades.
- conduct comprehensive testing and validation to ensure system reliability, data accuracy, and adherence to defined specifications.
- training & documentation:
- develop and deliver training sessions for end-users, ensuring they are proficient in using epic applications.
- create and maintain comprehensive training materials, documentation, and user guides.
- document system processes and workflows for future reference and knowledge sharing.
- reporting & data analysis:
- utilize epic's reporting tools (e.g., reporting workbench, clarity, crystal reports) to extract and analyze healthcare data.
- develop and maintain custom reports and dashboards to support clinical, operational, and financial decision-making, compliance, and quality improvement initiatives.
- support data integrity and compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., hipaa, meaningful use).
- project management & collaboration:
- contribute to and manage small to medium-sized projects independently.
- collaborate with cross-functional teams, including it, project managers, clinical staff, and leadership, to ensure successful system implementations and enhancements.
- communicate proactively with stakeholders regarding project progress, issues, and resolutions.
- continuous improvement:
- monitor system performance and identify opportunities for workflow improvements and best practices.
- stay updated on industry trends and advancements in epic applications and healthcare it.

qualifications:

- education: bachelor's degree in healthcare, computer science, information technology, or a related field is often preferred. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- experience:
- typically 1-5+ years of experience working with epic ehr systems, including implementation, configuration, and optimization. (junior roles may require less experience, while senior roles demand more).
- experience in a healthcare environment is highly preferred, demonstrating an understanding of clinical and administrative workflows.
- technical skills:
- strong understanding of epic systems functionality and configuration principles.
- familiarity with reporting tools and data analysis techniques (e.g., sql, crystal reports).
- knowledge of healthcare interoperability frameworks (e.g., hl7 standards).
- soft skills:
- excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a strong attention to detail.
- highly effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams and explain complex technical concepts to non-technical users.
- strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment.
- ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- critical thinking and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
- adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing project requirements.
