Position overview:
an established bakery in shanghai is seeking a skilled and innovative remote bakery consultant with deep expertise in artisan bread and pastry techniques. This role is ideal for a professional with a strong background in long fermentations, high-hydration doughs, and both european and japanese bakery styles. Proficiency in modern danish pastries and croissant-style breads is essential.
As the bakery continues to grow and refine its product offerings, the consultant will contribute significantly to the development of new products, staff training, and improvements in production processes. Working remotely in close collaboration with the head of research and development, the consultant will support ongoing innovation and operational efficiency. Quarterly visits to the headquarters will offer opportunities for hands‑on evaluations, in‑person training, and alignment with the broader team.
Key responsibilities:
product innovation & r&d collaboration:participate in weekly (2-hour) virtual meetings with the head of research and development to refine existing recipes and develop new offerings. The r&d kitchen is equipped with video conferencing capabilities to allow for live, real-time demonstrations and collaboration.
Remote and on-site technical advising:provide expert guidance on baking techniques, production methods, and quality assurance—both remotely and during quarterly visits to the production headquarters.
Quarterly in-person visits:travel to the beijing headquarters once every quarter (1 week per visit). Responsibilities during these visits include:
conducting quality control audits
leading in‑person staff training sessions
advising on product presentation and merchandising
supporting cost control, waste reduction, and inventory strategies
layout & workflow optimization:provide input on new outlet layouts to ensure efficient workflows and enhanced customer experience.
Strategic marketing & customer service support:advise on marketing strategies for baked products and contribute to initiatives aimed at improving customer satisfaction and retention.
Additional information:
work environment:fully remote from your place of residence. Share recipes, procedures, and training materials online. Regular video conferencing will support live interaction with the development team.
Travel & accommodation:all travel expenses for quarterly visits (economy airfare and budget hotel) are fully covered.
Compensation:usd 1,000 per month (post-tax), transferred directly to the consultant’s bank account.
Reporting line:reports directly to the culinary director, executive chef of the restaurant.
