Purchasing manager
position objective:
responsible for leading the sourcing strategy for indirect materials and services, ensuring cost optimization, supplier performance, and alignment with business objectives. Drives category management, supplier development, and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations.
experience:
* bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, industrial engineering, or related field (master's degree preferred)
* 5+ years of experience in indirect purchasing, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership role
* experience in automotive manufacturing or maquiladora environment preferred
* proven experience managing indirect categories such as mro, capex, services, logistics, and utilities
* strong knowledge of supplier management, sourcing strategies, and cost control
* bilingual: english / spanish
main responsibilities:
* lead, develop, and coach the purchasing team to achieve business objectives
* develop and implement sourcing and category strategies for indirect spend
* lead spend analysis and identify cost reduction and optimization opportunities
* drive supplier selection, evaluation, and development processes
* lead rfq processes, supplier negotiations, and contract management
* ensure supplier performance through kpis, continuous improvement, and innovation initiatives
* build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers using srm tools
* drive standardization initiatives to achieve economies of scale
* identify and mitigate supply chain risks and ensure business continuity
* collaborate with cross-functional teams (operations, finance, engineering, etc.)
* ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations
* support internal and external audits related to purchasing activities
* monitor and report purchasing kpis to leadership
* lead continuous improvement and savings initiatives across the organization
