*position overview*:
the import/export specialist is responsible for following up on shipments and import—and export-related activities within the operation.
*responsibilities*:
- *import / export operations*:
- coordinate the import and export of materials and finished goods, ensuring compliance with customs regulations and trade agreements.
- prepare and review shipping documentation (invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, etc.).
- manage relationships with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and transportation providers to ensure timely delivery.
- stay updated on changes in international trade policies, tariffs, and regulations.
- *suppliers and logistics management*:
- communicate with chinese parent company and other suppliers to confirm delivery timelines and resolve any discrepancies or delays.
- negotiate terms and monitor vendor performance to ensure quality and on-time delivery.
- act as a liaison between the production team and external logistics providers to address any operational issues.
- *material planning*:
- monitor inventory levels of raw materials and components, ensuring optimal stock levels without overstocking.
- collaborate with procurement, production, and logistics teams to ensure material flow.
- analyze production forecasts and adjust planning strategies as needed.
- *compliance and risk management*:
- ensure compliance with mexican, us, and international import/export regulations (e.g., immex program, usmca ).
- manage duties, taxes, and other trade-related expenses, optimizing cost efficiency.
- identify risks in the supply chain and develop contingency plans to mitigate disruptions.
*requirements*:
- bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, international business, or a related field.
- minimum 3-5 years of experience in material planning, supply chain, or import/export operations in a manufacturing environment (preferably automotive).
- strong knowledge of mexican customs regulations, trade agreements, and the immex program.
- proficiency in erp/mrp systems (epicor, sap, oracle) and ms office suite (especially excel).
- familiarity with international logistics processes and incoterms.
- certification in supply chain management (e.g., apics, cscp).
- familiarity with automotive industry standards (e.g., iatf 16949).
- excellent communication and negotiation skills.
