regional process safety engineer (psm)
you will help strengthen how we apply process safety management in our operations.
this role is very connected to the site and to day-to-day operations. You’ll work closely with plant teams to improve safety culture, operating discipline, and the practical use of psm processes in real situations.
at nouryon, psm is built around key elements like competency, training, moc, hazard studies, pssr, audits, and emergency response. In this role, you’ll help make sure these are not just procedures on paper, but practices that truly work in the field.
key responsibilities
* support strong and consistent execution of nouryon’s psm practices at site level
* work hands‑on with operations to reduce risk and prevent process safety incidents
core psm activities
* hazard studies
o support studies using nouryon’s risk matrix and procedures
o work together with site teams and engineers to complete them properly
* management of change (moc)
o support the site in applying moc as part of daily operations
* pre‑start‑up safety reviews (pssr)
o support pssr for new or modified equipment and processes
o help ensure hse requirements are covered before startup
o confirm training is completed for people operating new or changed processes
o support awareness for employees and contractors involved
* action tracking and follow‑up
o help ensure psm and pssr actions are completed before startup
o track follow‑up actions in enablon with clear owners and timelines
* psm audits and assessments
o support site psm self‑assessments
o help evaluate how effective psm elements are in practice
o support preparation for corporate compliance audits
o track audit actions through closure
* partnership with leaders and teams
o work closely with site leadership and regional teams
o provide practical process safety guidance that works in real operations
o help integrate psm into daily routines and existing systems
* competency and training discipline
o support role‑based competency expectations
o assist with training gap assessments and training plans
o support onboarding for people in qhse&s critical roles
qualifications
language
* fluent spanish and english (fully bilingual)
* able to communicate clearly and professionally with regional and global teams
education & technical background
* technical degree required. Strong preference for chemical engineering
* other technical degrees considered with relevant process safety experience
psm experience
* experience applying psm systems in operating or manufacturing environments
* ability to identify, understand, and manage process hazards
* familiarity with key psm elements such as hazard studies, moc, pssr, training & competency, psm audits

* experience supporting competency models and training plans
* ability to help assess training gaps and validate training effectiveness
ways of working
* hands‑on, proactive, and self‑driven
* comfortable working in situations that are not always perfectly structured
* able to spot gaps and push solutions through to completion
* strong follow‑up and action‑tracking mindset

this is a permanent, full‑time, fully on‑site role 5 days/week at our plant in los reyes (la paz).
you’ll report to the regional psm manager for north america, who’s based in houston, tx.
