job overview
te connectivity’s r&d/product development engineering teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The r&d/product development engineering teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, solid model, 2d/3d production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.
what your background should look like:
experience
• 6+ years working experience as a new product development related position and 4+ years of experience in product development of connectors, cables, or cable assemblies.
• connector, especially power/industrial/auto connector design background will be a plus.
• experience in power distribution systems is required.
• this position is highly technical and requires an individual who can work independently.
• experience with product compliance certification (product, safety, environment substances control).
• experience in design for manufacturing and assembly (dfma), design for cost (dfc), design for manufacturing (dfm).
education/knowledge
• bachelor’s degree (mechanical) required, master’s preferred.
• knowledge about various phases of product realization and development.
• proficiency with design tools such as 3d cad, gd&t, electrical & electronic design and simulation.
• basic knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, molding, stamping, plating, etc.) and materials (metal/plastic).
• knowledge of power distribution systems and connection components.
• familiarity with power safety standards and agency approvals.
• basic fea simulation skills.
• knowledge of quality tools (fmea, six sigma, doe, 8d) is a plus.
responsibilities
* manage the complete product development lifecycle from customer voice to end-of-life.
* understand market and customer needs, bridging engineering and customer teams.
* collaborate with sales and project teams to clarify voc and propose solutions.
* maintain system-level understanding of customer applications and cable designs.
* support project execution following leanpd processes, ensuring milestones are met.
* provide technical support, conduct tests, analysis, troubleshooting, and verification.
* coordinate with manufacturing, procurement, and suppliers to meet technical, quality, and cost goals.
* introduce new technologies to enhance business growth.
* apply engineering best practices to reduce costs and sustain existing products.
