*key responsibilitiesloan evaluation & risk assessment*
- assess borrower risk and determine creditworthiness based on champions funding's underwriting guidelines.
- ensure proper income calculations, asset verification, and property valuation analysis.
*compliance & documentation*
- ensure all underwriting decisions comply with *federal and state regulations*, as well as internal lending policies.
- identify and flag any *fraud risks, inconsistencies, or red flags* in borrower documentation.
- maintain *detailed loan file documentation* for audits and internal reviews.
*collaboration & communication*
- work closely with account managers, loan processors, and brokers to facilitate the loan approval process.
- clearly communicate *underwriting decisions*, including conditions for loan approvals.
- assist in resolving *escalations and loan exceptions*, coordinating with senior leadership when needed.
*process optimization*
- continuously seek opportunities to *streamline underwriting workflows* for efficiency and accuracy.
- provide feedback on underwriting guidelines and suggest updates based on industry trends and risk analysis.
- stay up-to-date with *non-qm lending practices* and regulatory changes.
*what we're looking forexperience & knowledge*
- *minimum 1 year of mortgage underwriting experience or 2 years of mortgage loan processing experience, preferably in non-qm lending.
*:
- strong knowledge of *lending regulations*, including *atr/qm and non-qm loan structures*.
- experience using *loan origination systems (los)* and *automated underwriting systems (aus)*.
*skills & competencies*
- excellent *analytical and problem-solving* skills.
- strong *attention to detail and accuracy* in financial assessment.
- ability to *manage multiple loan files* while maintaining turnaround times.
- effective *verbal and written communication* skills for broker and internal team interactions.

- *turnaround time*: complete initial underwriting decisions *within 48 hours* of loan submission.
- *condition reviews*: respond to loan condition reviews *within 24 hours*.
- *loan quality*: maintain an *accuracy rate of 95% or higher* on underwriting decisions.
- *customer satisfaction*: provide *timely and professional* communication to brokers and internal teams.
