Position summary:
we are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical insurance underwriter to evaluate risks, review applications, and determine appropriate coverage terms and pricing. The ideal candidate will have strong decision-making skills, solid knowledge of insurance products, and the ability to balance risk assessment with customer and business needs.
key responsibilities:
* review and analyze insurance applications, financial information, and supporting documents.
* assess the level of risk and determine eligibility for coverage.
* develop appropriate terms, conditions, and premium rates.
* collaborate with agents and brokers to obtain missing information or clarify details.
* ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
* maintain accurate records of underwriting decisions and policy documentation.
* provide guidance and support to sales teams regarding underwriting practices.
* monitor and evaluate existing policies for renewal and ongoing risk.
qualifications & skills:
* bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, insurance, or a related field.
* proven experience as an insurance underwriter (commercial, auto, life, or property lines preferred).
* strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
* high attention to detail and accuracy.
* ability to work independently and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
* proficiency in underwriting software and ms office suite.
preferred:
* bilingual (english/spanish).
