join our global service center (gsc) – hsbc in north america as an assistant vice president in the special credit unit (scu). The role focuses on managing high-risk credits for small businesses, mid‑market and large corporates, including commercial real estate, derivatives, and global banking clients. The objective is to reduce non‑performing assets and maximize timely recovery through collections, restructures, and rehabilitation.
responsibilities
* develop data processes and prepare scu departmental reports, including portfolio statistics, trends, and migration.
* produce reports on regulatory matters such as ifrs 9 and assist in internal and external audit engagements.
* support the ongoing administration and operation of sox and non‑sox controls.
* assist in projects, such as training, systems changes, process and control updates, and establish risk policies aligned with group risk and finance principles.
* coordinate with scu relationship managers to ensure data accuracy for ifrs 9 compliance and monitor high‑risk credits, recommending workout strategies in collaboration with senior relationship managers or independently when full responsibility is assigned.
* undertake thorough credit analysis, risk assessment, day‑to‑day management, loss estimation, and collateral coverage estimation for an assigned portfolio of bilateral and syndicated relationships.
* perform impairment analysis in compliance with ifrs 9 guidelines for exposures with default risk ratings.
* participate in lender calls to evaluate strategies at the bank group level and execute workout plans accordingly.
qualifications
* graduate degree in accounting, business, finance, economics or a related field; qualifications in finance (ca, icwa, cs, caiib) are preferred.
* 5+ years of post‑qualification experience handling small business or commercial credits, including interactions with customers and government agencies, and experience with loan workouts, commercial lending, or commercial recovery.
* in‑depth understanding of accounting, financial analysis, and credit products (term loans, od/cc, lc/bg, bill discounting, factoring, forex loans).
* good knowledge of international trade financing, treasury, and derivative products is preferred.
* ability to analyze loan documentation, including syndicated credit agreements, complex corporate financial statements, and personal net worth statements.
* excellent written and verbal english skills.
* strong data and analytical skills; experience developing management information solutions through tools such as python, r, or sas is desirable.
