position summary
the senior buyer coordinator is responsible for leading and developing the purchasing team while serving as the direct buyer for the company’s most critical and high‑impact materials.
this position plays a key role in supplier relationship management, supply continuity, inventory support, premium freight reduction, cost control, and operational performance.
what you’ll do
leadership & coordination
- lead, develop, and align a team of buyers.
- set priorities and balance workloads based on production requirements.
- serve as the escalation point for critical supplier issues.
- lead supplier recovery plans and capacity reviews.
- monitor purchasing kpis and drive continuous improvement.
- support s&op activities and supply risk mitigation.
- develop team capabilities through coaching and training.
- ensure compliance with quality, trade, and supply chain requirements.
purchasing & strategic sourcing
- manage purchase orders for critical a‑class materials.
- negotiate pricing, lead times, payment terms, and supply agreements.
- monitor supplier performance and drive corrective actions.
- ensure material availability to support production schedules.
- manage supply risks and contingency plans.
- validate supplier invoices and contract compliance.
- drive improvements in supplier otif, ppv, and premium freight performance.
- support inventory optimization and cost‑reduction initiatives.
qualifications
education
- bachelor’s degree in international business, business administration, industrial engineering, supply chain, or a related field.
- apics cpim, cscp, or ism cpsm certification is a plus.
experience
- 5+ years of experience in purchasing, strategic sourcing, or supply chain within a manufacturing environment.
- 2+ years of leading teams or coordinating purchasing activities.
- strong experience managing supplier relationships and negotiations.
- experience with mrp/erp systems.
- experience managing supply risks, recovery plans, and supplier performance.
- budget management and cost control experience.
preferred qualifications
- experience in high‑mix / low‑volume manufacturing environments.
- experience supporting maquiladora operations.
- experience working with international suppliers.
- strong understanding of import/export and customs processes.
- experience driving premium freight reduction initiatives.
