Customs entry specialist
we are seeking a highly skilled customs entry specialist to join our team in the us. As part of our global trade compliance team, you will be responsible for ensuring our supply chain runs seamlessly while safeguarding compliance across international borders.
about the role
the customs entry specialist plays a critical role in ensuring compliance and accuracy in the importation of goods into the us. You will be responsible for auditing customs entries, invoices, and broker submissions to confirm compliance with us customs regulations, company policies, and country-of-origin requirements.
main responsibilities:
* audit entry packets received from primary customs brokers and freight forwarders.
* retrieve and review entry packets, including entry summary, commercial invoice, packing list, and bill of lading.
* cross-reference entries with the ace portal to verify alignment of declared values, duties, and country of origin.
* validate duty percentages and tariff classifications to ensure compliance with us customs regulations.
* spot-check commercial invoices against declared entry values to identify discrepancies.
* evaluate inconsistencies, errors, or compliance concerns and escalate them to the supervisor immediately.
* maintain thorough documentation of all audits for internal controls and external regulatory compliance.
* collaborate with brokers, freight forwarders, and internal trade compliance teams to resolve discrepancies and improve accuracy of submissions.
key requirements
to be successful in this role, you will require exceptional attention to detail, knowledge of customs procedures, and strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
qualifications:
* bachelor's degree in business administration, international commerce, or similar with 5+ years of experience in customs compliance, import/export operations, or related logistics/supply chain role.
* strong knowledge of us import regulations, tariff classifications, and customs entry processes.
* proficiency in using the ace portal and handling entry packets.
* high attention to detail with excellent auditing and documentation skills.
* strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
prior experience working with major freight forwarders and customs brokers, familiarity with international trade compliance and free trade agreements (e.g., usmca), and experience in the medical device, automotive, or manufacturing industries is preferred.
