Our optical communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network.
the carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data, and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments, and individuals for their own use.
purpose of position
ensure process control and stability by improving existing manufacturing processes and capabilities, participate in new processes for the manufacture of new products, lead manufacturing improvement initiatives, including variability reduction, defect reduction, process control improvement.
major responsibilities and tasks of the position
1. plan, organize, and execute work-streams on projects to deliver process improvement
2. evaluate process cost, quality, and capability alternatives, institute continuous improvements to existing manufacturing operations through process automation/semi-automation
3. project work scope typically includes equipment selection (design, development), manufacturing installation, start-up and acceptance (pilot, pre-pro runs & eem)
4. role includes individual contributor and project work-stream leadership responsibilities
5. develop and update manufacturing process documentation, (mpis, vas)
6. work with and facilitate alignment between manufacturing, development, and upstream process experts
7. manage internal corning resources to complete project deliverables
8. interface with suppliers to deliver fully integrated, on-budget, and fulfilling the technical scope when appropriated
9. apply knowledge of engineering principles and methods to resolve challenges
10. utilize basic statistical tools, engineering data, and dmaic/desgn/lean methodologies to develop process understanding to support robust manufacturing processes
11. support execution of roadmap and project portfolio
education
mechatronics, mechanical, electronic, industrial engineering or related. Required english skills 70%
yellow belt certification is a plus
six sigma knowledge, understanding of statistical analysis (histograms, regression analysis, standard deviation, gr&r, doe etc.)
