About the role
reporting to the vice president of operations, the plant manager is responsible for overall plant performance, including production, maintenance, safety, quality, efficiency, and daily scheduling. This role leads large, cross-functional teams while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. The plant manager plays a critical leadership role in driving operational results while maintaining flexibility to respond to changing business demands.
Key responsibilities
leadership & management
direct, lead, and develop plant staff across production, maintenance, and support functions
manage supervisors across all plant shifts
build and sustain a culture focused on safety, quality, accountability, and teamwork
partner with human resources on staffing, training, and performance management
production & scheduling
ensure production orders are completed on time and to specification
communicate proactively regarding production issues, delays, and resource needs
drive production while maintaining flexibility to respond to changing demand
safety & compliance
lead safety initiatives, training, reporting, and osha compliance efforts
maintenance & equipment
oversee plant and preventative maintenance programs
minimize downtime through effective maintenance planning and execution
operational efficiency & cost control
monitor labor utilization, waste, production costs, and performance targets
implement lean, six sigma, and continuous improvement initiatives
drive improvements in throughput, scrap reduction, and yield
quality management
ensure products meet customer and company quality standards
address quality issues and implement corrective actions as needed
reporting & metrics
track and report kpis related to safety, productivity, waste, labor efficiency, and delivery performance
provide regular updates and recommendations to senior leadership
requirements
minimum 7+ years of plant or manufacturing leadership experience
proven experience managing teams of 100+ employees
strong background in lean manufacturing, maintenance systems, and safety programs
corrugated packaging industry experience strongly preferred
