A day in the life
as a senior supplier quality engineer, you will manage our strategic contract manufacturers (cms) and original equipment manufacturers (oems). Your responsibilities include supporting changes to supplied products and processes, overseeing performance and improvement activities, and maintaining necessary controls to drive improvements in finished medical device/component quality within our suppliers’ quality systems. You will partner with medtronic r&d, quality, and regulatory teams to ensure supplied products meet finished device requirements, prevent defects, and remain compliant with industry and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
ensures that suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services.
Qualifies suppliers according to company standards and administers a certified supplier program to ensure cost effectiveness.
Monitors parts from acquisition through the manufacturing cycle and communicates and resolves supplier‑related problems as they occur.
Develops and prioritizes an auditing schedule to ensure that designated suppliers are audited regularly to meet gmp and quality standards.
Evaluates suppliers’ internal functions to assess overall performance and provides feedback in assessments of their operations.
Provides pre‑market quality engineering support to new product development (npd) teams, delivering quality parts, materials, and services, and preventing defects.
Provides technical guidance and quality compliance for supplier quality engagement throughout the npd lifecycle on newly qualified parts, ensuring they meet applicable industry standards and customer requirements.
Collaborates with component engineers to develop and deliver the product acceptance sampling strategy, approved supplier list coordination, supplier owned quality deployment, and control plans for new products.
Defines receiving inspection requirements and associated test method validation for all internal medtronic test methods.
Technical specialist career stream
an individual contributor responsible for advancing existing technology or introducing new technology and therapies. Formulates, delivers, or manages projects, working with other stakeholders to achieve desired results. May mentor colleagues or direct lower‑level professionals. The majority of time is spent delivering r&d, systems, or initiatives related to new technologies or therapies— from design to implementation—while adhering to policies and using specialized knowledge and skills.

Required knowledge and experience
requires a baccalaureate degree and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or a phd with 0 years of relevant experience.
