Overview
Associate Director of Creative (AI) at Darkroom. Reports to the Director of Creative and leads a pod of Designers while delivering AI-powered Creative Direction, Marketing Design, and UI/UX Design engagements at a high level of client service and visual quality. This role requires expertise in integrating AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Perplexity, Midjourney) into workflows to drive efficiency and staying on the cutting edge of AI in creative work. The first 60 days focus on helping the creative team integrate AI into workflows and building processes and trainings with the Director of Creative. Responsibilities include owning Creative Direction engagements impacting paid marketing and organic channels for e-commerce clients. Remote role in EST; open to Brazil, Mexico, Portugal, and Spain.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of designers (starting with 1-2 direct reports) and provide strategy, project management, design feedback, performance evaluation, and escalation handling.
- Conduct weekly 1:1s to assess client health, provide feedback, and support career development.
- Ensure high-quality output focusing on visual craft, UX expertise, and meeting deadlines.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop project plans, understand business objectives, and address client issues.
- Refine internal processes for client work and provide training to enhance design team skills.
- Champion AI-powered work, lead trainings on best practices, and build efficient AI workflows with the Director of Creative.
- Lead Creative Direction engagements transforming paid or organic marketing channels with deliverables like content calendars, creative briefs, and strategic proposals.
- Lead 1-2 UI/UX engagements focused on branded e-commerce websites with emphasis on brand, conversion-focused UX, and clear design approaches.
- Present design and creative direction to clients with reasoning grounded in UX principles.
- Manage design projects end-to-end from discovery to hand-off, collaborating with developers to ensure feasibility.
- Develop component systems and design guidelines for consistency.
Qualifications & Skills
- 3-6+ years of senior-level design experience with at least 1 year of people management preferred; experience in creative direction, marketing design, or responsive web design.
- Digital portfolio showcasing web design, marketing design, and branding skills, including color theory, hierarchy, composition, and typography.
- Self-motivated, proactive, detail-oriented with strong ownership.
- Experience using AI tools to power client-ready assets and workflows.
- Experience collaborating with developers and documenting designs for hand-off.
- Client-facing experience in English, including leading discovery calls and resolving feedback.
- Ability to provide constructive internal feedback and guide direct reports to improve their work.
- Ability to tackle ambiguous problems, understand business challenges, design solutions, and execute them effectively.
- Proficiency in Figma (Auto Layout, Components, Variants) and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator).
