Transportation Operations Management (TOM) oversees trailer yard operations at 13 Fulfillment Centers (FC), 3 Sort Centers (SC) and 1 Cross Dock (IXD) across Mexico, ensuring yard safety, efficient trailer movement, and guard shack operations management. TOM is the main focal point between Site Operations and Transportation Network. TOM is part of Amazon Transportation Services (ATS), a high-powered dynamic team shaping middle-mile transportation execution and developing innovative transportation management concepts to improve and enhance the ATS Network to drive the best customer experience in a reliable and cost-efficient manner, every time. The MX ATS Transportation Operation Management (TOM) team is looking for a Regional Operations Manager with strong delivery record and leadership experience to own and execute strategic and cross-functional yard operations.
Key job responsibilities
- Own TOM field operations and projects in the MX Sort Centers (SC) and Cross Dock (IXD).
- Own the overall safety, quality, performance, and customer experience for yard management activities in the region.
- Manage a group of TOM Area Managers within regional cluster.
- Drive a performance culture, instill ownership and create a high-performing team.
- Launch the TOM function to cover new FCs and Sort Centers (SC) launches in MX.
- Set and clarify requirements and expectations with the FCs and SCs Senior Operations Managers, negotiate when needed.
- Establish and own performance metrics and communicate them to TOM leadership.
- Drive creation of safety and quality initiatives, process change initiatives and other Lean initiatives to meet and exceed the business plans.
- Analyze transportation data to identify opportunities for improving network efficiency.
- Take proactive steps to ensure that best practices are shared across all departments, shifts, and among the network.
- Work closely with the sites’ support staff (People eXperience Technology (PXT), Finance, Facilities, Safety, Information Technology (IT) and Site leadership) to build and secure support and resources for projects and initiatives in their sites.
- Drive and rollout the tech initiatives for step changes in yard performances.
A day in the life
Every morning, review key metrics – On Time Departure, safety events, yard capacity, dwelling, and truck utilization – to monitor and optimize operations. Collaborate across sites to share best practices, surface blockers, and drive continuous improvement. This regional perspective supports professional development and strategic thinking.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, or 3+ years of Amazon (blue badge/FTE) experience.
- Flexible schedule, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays.
- Travel up to 50% of the time.
- 5+ years of employee and performance management experience.
- Travel within Mexico in their specific region.
- English and Spanish fluent.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of performance metrics, process improvement or lean techniques experience.
