BASIC OBJECTIVE
Has overall responsibility for the financial related matters of the Sanimex Vitreous Operation. Serve as the financial advisor to the business head and all key managers of the business. Execute the role in alignment with Kohler Co. policies, procedures and matrixed organization structure. Maintain the highest level of integrity and candor to all key management levels of the business and Kohler Co. The goal of this position is to provide meaningful and timely information that is used not only to run but to improve the business segment, encompassing more than just plant expenses and including manufacturing cost responsibility for the business segment.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Advise the management of the Vitreous Mexico Plant from a financial perspective, interpreting and communicating in a straightforward manner.
- Analyze and quantify business activities and decisions in financial terms using Kohler Co. methodologies, training and leveraging support staff.
- Ensure plant functions are aware of and operate to Kohler standard policies and procedures.
- Maintain financial records in accordance with U.S. GAAP, tax, legal and Kohler Co. requirements, keeping the business Chart of Accounts compatible with Kohler Co. standards.
- Coordinate annual budgeting, standard cost maintenance and capital planning processes, and be the owner of monthly financial projections.
- Coordinate monthly accounting close, producing financial information reports in Kohler reporting formats and ensuring timely availability to business and Kohler management.
- Monitor and report monthly variances, spending, production, shipments, inventories, and performance measures; analyze and report financial and operational performance to standards.
- Work closely with materials associates to assure inventory control and turn rate objectives, developing inventory control procedures including physical inventory and cycle counting.
- Develop and mentor supporting staff, providing knowledge transfer, coaching, constructive feedback and candid appraisal.
- Maintain and enhance internal control systems, using feedback from auditors to identify weaknesses and maintaining a perpetual inventory process for fixed assets.
- Enforce product costing methodologies, focusing on margin and overall profitability of business segments.
- Supervise the systems area for the business, managing all office equipment and coordinating with local IT.
- Maintain, integrate, and enhance accounting systems of the business.
- Provide Plant Management and supervision with recommendations for improving plant financial and operational performance.
- Maintain the highest level of honesty and integrity, promoting this level in supporting staff and plant functions.
RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS
Internal:
- Reports to Senior Manager – Finance, North America Vitreous; dotted line to Director – Finance, Latin America Operations & Commercial.
- Key Relationships: Direct report – Supervisor Finance; Direct report – Finance Analyst; Acts as Financial Advisor to Director – Sanimex Operations; Collaborates closely with Supply Chain, Strategic Sourcing, and Plant Operations teams; Works closely with all Plant Management & Personnel, Corporate Accounting, Local Treasury and A/P, Local Taxation, Local Corporate Information Systems; Cooperates with Internal Audit.
External: Occasional contact with vendors of business machines, office supplies, and printing services regarding quotations, purchases, payment of invoices, maintenance or repairs to telephone system.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with five years’ experience, preferably operating in a Mexican Maquiladora company. Bilingual skills. Experience in manufacturing accounting and operational analysis is preferred. Supervisory experience and a strong systems aptitude are also preferred. Experience in SAP financial reporting is desirable.
