Role summaryvir bio is seeking a vice president, business development to lead global business development initiatives aligned with the organization’s strategic priorities. Reporting to the chief business officer, you will maximize the value of vir bio’s portfolio by partnering a subset of clinical and preclinical programs and platforms, accessing complementary technologies, and leading the bd function with strategic independence. This role requires a strong writer and presenter with extensive deal experience, the ability to develop high-performing teams, and a commitment to compliance and excellence. The position is located in san francisco with onsite requirements.responsibilitiesindependently spearhead global business development activities consistent with vir bio's internal and external innovation strategies set by the ceo, management team, and boardlead global search and evaluation efforts to source opportunities that complement vir bio’s pipeline and platforms, in collaboration with the cmo, cso, cbo, and other executiveslead out-licensing initiatives to identify potential partners for certain vir bio assets or platformsmanage partnership discussions, including due diligence, term sheet drafting and negotiation, collaboration agreements, and collecting internal feedbackdirect cross-functional teams for due diligence across scientific, clinical, manufacturing, regulatory, marketing, financial, legal, and ip areasdevelop negotiating strategies and, with legal teams (and sometimes investment bankers), lead face-to-face negotiations with counterpartiesoversee financial model creation and evolution to inform valuation of external opportunitiescreate strategic, high-quality slide decks to present opportunities to the ceo, executive team, and boardcollaborate with strategy, competitive intelligence, and alliance management to maximize deal value during and after negotiationsprovide inclusive and ethical leadership to optimize employee performance and engagementsupport the cbo on projects and collaborate with leaders across the organization as neededqualificationsadvanced medical and/or scientific degree (md, phd, or both) preferred15+ years of experience, including at least 10+ years in business development with significant deal and negotiation experience in biopharma or related life sciences; oncology and/or infectious disease experience is a plusexperience as a management consultant in a top firm strongly preferredstrong capabilities in strategic analysis and communication, with ability to write articulately and present compelling narrativesproven track record of leading and negotiating complex, high-value transactions, including out-licensing, with ability to manage competing prioritiesdeep understanding of due diligence, asset valuation, and portfolio management, with strong scientific and business acumensuccessful history of independently sourcing, evaluating, prioritizing, pursuing, and onboarding high-value clinical-stage assets, preclinical assets, and platformswell-networked in biopharma, life science, and vc communities; sf bay area a plusextensive experience managing and optimizing partnerships through deal execution and alliance managementstrong analytical, quantitative, and financial skills; comfort with financial models and sec documents; venture capital or investment banking experience a plusproven leadership of bd professionals with hands-on contribution to closing deals
