Role overview
we are seeking a senior hr generalist to lead and support hr operations for employees located in mexico, with a primary focus on mexico city. This role will serve as a trusted advisor to employees and managers, ensuring compliance with mexican labor laws while driving a consistent, high-quality employee experience. The ideal candidate brings deep local expertise, strong employee relations skills, and experience partnering with global hr teams.
key responsibilities strategic hr partnership
* act as a senior hr partner for managers and employees in mexico
* provide guidance on performance management, workforce planning, organizational changes, and employee engagement
* advise leaders on complex employee relations matters and risk mitigation
* translate global hr policies into locally compliant, culturally appropriate practices
employee relations & case management
* lead investigations, disciplinary processes, and employee relations cases in accordance with mexican labor law
* manage sensitive issues including performance concerns, grievances, and terminations
* ensure consistent documentation and legally compliant outcomes
* serve as an escalation point for complex or high‐risk cases
compliance & labor law (mexico)
* own compliance with mexican labor laws (ley federal del trabajo) and local regulations
* oversee employment contracts, amendments, severance calculations, and termination processes
* partner with external legal counsel, payroll vendors, and labor authorities as needed
* monitor changes in labor legislation and proactively recommend updates to policies and practices
hr operations & programs
* oversee onboarding and offboarding processes for mexico‐based employees
* ensure accurate hr data, records, and documentation across systems
* partner closely with payroll and benefits providers (imss, infonavit, fonacot, etc.)
* lead or support benefits renewals and vendor relationships
talent, performance & development
* partner with talent acquisition on senior and critical hires in mexico
* support performance review cycles, compensation planning, and disciplinary actions
* contribute to learning, development, and retention initiatives
* coach managers on effective people management practices
cross-functional & global collaboration
* serve as the primary hr liaison between mexico and global/regional hr teams
* lead or contribute to regional and global hr projects
* provide reporting and insights on workforce trends, risks, and opportunities in mexico
qualifications required
* bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, law, or a related field
* 6-10+ years of progressive hr experience, with significant focus on mexico
* deep expertise in mexican labor law and employment practices
* proven experience managing complex employee relations and terminations
* fluency in spanish and professional proficiency in english
preferred
* experience supporting multinational or distributed workforces
* familiarity with union environments or labor negotiations (if applicable)
* hr certification or advanced training (local or international)
