position overview
the finance controller - mexico will oversee paylocity mexico’s core accounting and compliance functions including, but not limited to, month‑end close, general ledger, internal controls, internal/external reporting, intercompany, compliance, tax, and treasury. The finance controller – mexico will work closely with us staff members responsible for mexico accounting, including teams in corporate accounting, accounting operations, and corporate tax. This role will also be heavily involved in coordinating our relationship with our third‑party accounting service provider in mexico. Additionally, the finance controller – mexico will provide support for us accounting, help drive projects including major process improvement initiatives, and implementation of new accounting standards. This person will be a trusted partner to the us corporate accounting team and must be comfortable both in the detail, ensuring financial reporting accuracy, as well as being able to rise‑up and think strategically to scale the company. This role will provide leadership to achieve desired results and enable the continued growth the company will continue to experience.
primary responsibilities
* review and approve journal entries and account reconciliations
* manage work of team members with responsibility over functional accounting areas impacted by paylocity mexico’s operations. Includes leading efforts over topics such as gl accounting related to mexico‑specific payroll and benefits, vat, intercompany transactions, and others.
* coordinate and provide guidance to accounting operations/ap with respect to any mexico‑specific requirements for vendor bill and employee expense processing and recording to the gl
* manage local compliance, banking, payroll, and tax relationships. Coordinate and act as liaison with external accounting and tax consultants to ensure subsidiary books are complete and accurate.
* partner with legal and hr teams on corporate and personnel matters.
* ensure compliance with all mexico statutory and regulatory accounting filing and reporting requirements
* own internal control environment for assigned areas.
* collaborate cross‑functionally and with the accounting/finance group to prepare and execute against corporate initiatives.
* assist in the company’s evaluation of technical accounting matters, including those related to complex transactions, emerging areas, and adoption of new accounting standards.
* assist with providing 10q and 10k/sec required reporting information for parent company.
* serve as a key resource for special projects, including system implementations.
* identify opportunities for, and champion, accounting process evolution.
* drive a continuous improvement mindset through identifying automation opportunities, process improvements or improved reporting capabilities to support decision making across the organization.
* drive cross functional projects to enable and influence positive outcomes.

education and experience
* bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, finance, or related degree.
* contador publico certificado license required.
* 5+ years of experience in accounting‑related work (big 4 public accounting experience, public company, high‑growth saas company a significant plus)
* 5+ years team leadership experience
* significant experience with mexican gaap and compliance reporting. Experience working with a us‑based parent company a plus.
* knowledge/experience in major erp platforms. Experience with netsuite, and multi‑book a plus.
* advanced experience with microsoft office suite – excel, word, powerpoint, outlook
* strong written and verbal communication skills
