role overview:
we are seeking a dedicated teaching assistant (semh) to join an outstanding semh school in liverpool on a long term, supply basis through academics. In this role, you will work closely with individual students who require additional support due to semh challenges and behavioural difficulties. As a teaching assistant (semh), your primary focus will be to provide tailored support that promotes their academic progress, emotional well-being, and personal development.
your key responsibilities as a teaching assistant (semh):
* provide 1:1 support to students with semh needs, helping them engage positively with their learning.
* implement strategies to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour in line with the school's behaviour policies.
* collaborate with teaching staff, senco, and other professionals to create a supportive and inclusive environment.
* support the emotional and social development of students, promoting self-regulation and resilience.
* maintain accurate records of student progress and behaviour, feeding back to the relevant staff.
requirements for a teaching assistant (semh):
* experience working with students with semh needs and challenging behaviour (in a school or similar setting).
* strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
* an understanding of behaviour management strategies and a proactive approach to supporting students.
* a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
desirable:
* relevant qualifications in education, sen, or childcare.
* previous experience in a similar semh school setting.
