under general supervision, this position is responsible for developing, organizing, and coordinating production plans and inventory levels to support business objectives and customer demand.
this role requires proven, hands-on experience performing both planning and buying functions. Candidates with experience in only one area will not be considered.

key duties & responsibilities
* analyze open orders and forecasts to develop material plans ensuring raw materials are ordered, available, and aligned with production needs while maintaining optimal inventory levels.
* execute purchasing activities, including supplier communication, order placement, and follow-up to ensure on-time delivery of materials.
* collaborate closely with suppliers to ensure timely shipment and resolve delivery issues.
* develop and manage production schedules based on capacity, material availability, and business priorities.
* monitor production plans and capacity constraints; recommend adjustments such as overtime, additional shifts, or staffing changes as needed.
* track and manage inventory levels to ensure alignment with demand, minimizing excess and shortages.
* identify, analyze, and resolve material shortages, discrepancies, and inventory issues; implement corrective and preventive actions.
* manage material disposition related to engineering changes, excess, obsolete inventory, and scrap.
* utilize appropriate tools and systems to manage engineering changes and material planning.
* develop and implement inventory control strategies; monitor effectiveness and adjust as needed.
* analyze data to identify trends, inconsistencies, and system errors; drive continuous improvement in material planning and handling.
* prioritize activities based on internal and external customer needs to ensure timely resolution of issues.
* communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, providing clear updates and solutions.
requirements
* bachelor's degree required.
* minimum 6–10 years of progressive experience in a combined planner/buyer role (required).
* candidates must demonstrate direct responsibility for both production planning and purchasing activities.
* strong experience with mrp systems; sap preferred.
* experience working directly with production/operations on the manufacturing floor.
* bilingual english/spanish required.
* knowledge of quality systems and ehs management systems.
* demonstrated business acumen and leadership capability.
* strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement solutions.
* ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
