key responsibilities:
1.plan, execute, and support migrations of sql server databases from on-premises environments to azure iaas, azure sql database, and azure sql managed instance.
2. Perform assessments of on-prem sql server environments to determine the best azure target platform and migration strategy.
3. Utilize tools such as azure database migration service (dms), data migration assistant (dma), and native sql tools to support migration activities.
4. Troubleshoot and resolve performance, connectivity, and compatibility issues during and after migration.
5. Monitor and maintain the health, performance, and security of azure sql environments post-migration.
6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including infrastructure, application, and cloud engineering to ensure successful project delivery.
7. Develop automation scripts and implement best practices for database administration in azure.
8. Provide documentation and knowledge transfer to internal teams on azure-based sql database management.
required skills and qualifications:
1. 5+ years of experience with microsoft sql server, including on-premises installation, configuration, and administration.
2. Proven experience in migrating sql server databases to azure iaas (sql server on vm), azure sql database, and azure sql managed instance.
3. Solid understanding of differences between azure sql db, mi, and iaas-hosted sql and when to use each.
4. Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills in both on-prem and cloud environments.
5. Proficiency with t-sql, powershell scripting, and automation tools.
6. Experience using migration tools such as dma, dms, and azure migrate.
7. Familiarity with azure monitor, log analytics, and backup/restore strategies in azure.
8. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
9. Microsoft certifications related to azure or sql server (e.g., azure database administrator associate, mcsa/mcse: sql server).
10.experience with high availability and disaster recovery (ha/dr) solutions in azure.
12. Understanding of security best practices for azure sql services (e.g., role-based access, network security, encryption).
