The u.s. State and local tax specialist supports activities and projects related to pension plan partnership returns and state income tax quarterly estimates and extensions, with local and regional supervision
- bachelor’s degree in finance or related fields
- staffing experience level required: entry level to 2-3 years state/local or other tax experience
- skillset & systems used: excel, thompson reuters owm workflows & fileroom, corptax
proved knowledge and experience in the following:
- accounting
- tax
- legal
- english proficiency (verbal and written) for business interactions
*state & local quarterly estimated tax payments (q1, q2, q3, & q4/extensions)*
- as part of the state & local tax global team, the gbs mexico team members will prepare initial draft of estimated state/local income tax payment workbook for each fiscal quarter within 14 days of jurisdiction’s payment due date for the applicable quarter. Tasks include:
- rolling over workbook from prior year/quarter
- analyze estimated federal taxable income from federal/tax accounting forecasts
- analyze state adjustment items (e.g., depreciation expense, interest/royalty income and expense, non-us income/expense) with current year information, as available, or use prior-year filed return
- analyze state apportionment data for current year/ adjustments to prior-year filed return for changes in tax profile
- estimate available attributes and carryovers (nol, tax credits, overpayments) or profile updates due to audits
- prepare payment check request documentation & submit for ford manager approval
- retain payment approval tracking and documentation
- confirm payment completed and upload documentation
- execute electronic filing of estimated payment vouchers
- utilize corp tax for electronic filings
- facilitate mailing of paper filings
- electronic filing of extension requests & associated payments
- monitor online accounts for notices and proof of payment documentation
- maintain and upload documentation to tax record retention and workflow tools for all work product (thompson reuters onesource workflow manager)
