The position
the mexico manager of operations (plant manager) for the chihuahua manufacturing facility is responsible for all activities of each function. The mexico operations manager leads and directs all production departments as well as support functions, which may or may not include manufacturing engineering, production planning & scheduling, purchasing, materials management, facility is, building services, quality, human resources and plant finance. This position is the top lead management position of the chihuahua facility and is responsible for daily order fulfillment, eh&s, quality and continuous improvement activities, all targeted at achieving customer satisfaction goals as measured by the company operating system metrics. Position reports to the regional director of operations based in the usa.
responsible for facility of over 125kft2 in area; employing more than 500 (direct + indirect) employees; supporting three or more major manufacturing processes in the facility and supporting npd/i processes within the factory.
the mexico operations manager has the authority and responsibility to stop machines and equipment that are not working according to the standard process and may cause defects or insecure conditions. The mexico operations manager must know and apply the company's environmental policies and procedures in the performance of his or her duties.
the position
1. eh&s – the manager of operations is responsible for all activities that affect environmental health & safety related to the facility. This includes a proactive approach to employee safety and housekeeping utilizing the 5s system and behavior based safety. Effectiveness will be tracked/measured via the monthly scorecard review meeting as per gwi-9-52-0 the manager of operations is responsible for compliance with state, federal, or local regulations. The manager of operations is responsible for the compliance to the applicable environmental standard at their facility and timely completion of action items pertaining to environmental issues. Environmental system effectiveness will be measured by the audit system
2. quality – manage the manufacturing facility's quality system in the areas of soft errors, hard errors, and internal defects as specified and measured in gwi-9-52-01, to meet customer expectations and to ensure the continued growth and success of the business. Provide monthly updates as to the status of the facility quality system in the management review meeting. Conduct audits and take corrective actions as necessary to maintain iso/ts/as registration
3. delivery performance / customer satisfaction – the manager of operations is accountable for their facility's customer satisfaction levels based on the facility's ability to deliver to the customer request and schedule dates. The on-time shipment metrics show how well the facility is performing to both the customers' expectations as well as our own commitments to them as tracked and measured in accordance with gwi-9-52-01. The manager of operations is responsible for setting the goals, putting in place the organization to achieve those goals, measuring the results and taking timely and effective corrective action, as necessary. The manager of operations is also responsible for ensuring that third party operations in the supply chain meet their targets for delivery, quality and cost and are not impacting on the facility's performance negatively.
4. asset management – accountable for the proper management and control of all inventory assets owned and/or utilized by their facility. The metrics for asset management are tracked and measured in accordance with gwi-9-52-01. The manager of operations is responsible is responsible for putting in place the proper controls in purchasing, materials management and shipping that are necessary to protect the company's interests. The manager of operations is also responsible for all capital assets in the facility. This requires the exercise of proper care and maintenance of the assets to maintain them in safe working order and that the company's investments are protected.
5. productivity – the manager of operations is responsible for increasing productivity in all areas by correctly applying/utilizing appropriate improvement techniques and resources. Effectiveness will be measured via the scorecard review meeting as per gwi-9-52-01
6. engineering – the mexico manager of operations oversees the manufacturing engineering staff in the justification and implementation of capital projects as well as continuous improvement cost reductions. Supports the npd/i processes in the facility through proper resourcing and application of established company procedures (pro-04, etc.). This manager will monitor the introduction of new products, technology transfers and product rationalization to ensure that timelines and budgets are achieved
7. the company operating system – the manager of operations is responsible for the enhancement and improvement of the company operating system including (but is not limited to) flow manufacturing and lean manufacturing techniques as well as the appropriate application of 6-sigma tools to reduce variation in processes.

the candidate
13. bs in engineering or equivalent, mba preferred.
14. lean and continuous improvement knowledge and experience
15. computer literate, sap experience preferred
16. excellent communication and negotiation skills
17. 10+ years manufacturing experience with increasingly responsible roles with at least 5 years as a plant manager, sr operations manager or similar.
18. knowledge and good understanding of cost accounting & financial skills
19. experience with multinational companies and low volume and high mix manufacturing environments are required.
20. familiar with chihuahua is preferred.

22. fluent in english (85%+) and spanish.
