Summary
the quality engineer is responsible for ensuring compliance with customer and internal quality requirements, supporting new product launches, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This role plays a key part in apqp activities, customer interaction, problem‑solving, and maintaining quality system standards (iatf/vda).
main responsibilities and activities
* ensure compliance with quality objectives aligned with corporate policies and kpis (e.g., scrap, customer complaints, rft).
* lead and support problem‑solving activities (8d, root cause analysis) for internal and customer issues.
* act as primary point of contact with customers for quality‑related topics, including rejections and complaints.
* develop, implement, and track corrective and preventive action plans.
* participate actively in new product launches, ensuring quality deliverables are completed on time.
* lead and support apqp activities, including documentation from development through production handover.
* ensure full compliance and execution of ppap submissions (internal and suppliers).
* develop and maintain control plans, including pre‑launch control plans.
* analyze statistical data related to product and process characteristics as required.
* participate in internal and external audits and ensure compliance with iatf 16949 and vda standards.
* maintain and update quality documentation and ensure system compliance.
* monitor customer portals and track company performance on quality metrics.
* provide regular quality reports (weekly/monthly) to management.
* lead and supervise internal/resident auditors, including those located at customer sites.
* support supplier quality activities, including evaluations and visits when required.
* investigate customer complaints and ensure timely resolution while maintaining strong customer relationships.
* ensure documentation of lessons learned and implementation of risk mitigation actions.
* support environmental compliance by following company policies and promoting best practices.
education/experience/skills
* a bachelor's degree in a technical field or related area, or equivalent experience is preferred.
* at least 3 years of experience managing quality systems, procedures, and practices for an automotive supplier in a manufacturing environment.
* sotrong knowledge of:
o apqp/ppap
o coretools (fmea, control plan, spc; msa)
o iatf 16949/vda 6.3 standards
* experience in structured problem‑solving and teamwork.
* at least 3 years of experience in quality.
* exposure to lean manufacturing disciplines.
* ability to solve scheduling problems with both customers and suppliers.
* experience handling customers such as dna, navistar, volvo.
* strong leadership, planning, negotiation, and problem‑solving skills.
* demonstrated use of dimensional metrology and statistical methods to diagnose and correct quality issues.
* certification as an internal auditor for iatf 16949.
* demonstrable knowledge of core tools (apqp, control plan, ppap, fmea, spc, msa).
* demonstrable knowledge of problem‑solving and issue presentation.
* proficient in interpreting technical drawings (gd&t).
verbal skills
* fluent in english, both written and spoken.
* ability to communicate effectively with clients and company staff.
* ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
* ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, and customers.
computer skills
* proficient in ms office software (powerpoint, word, and excel), minitab.
