About this role
we are seeking a skilled senior underwriter to join our team in mexico city. As a senior underwriter, you will be responsible for developing new business and renewal submissions for direct insurance from local brokers and agents.
* you will develop new business and renewal submissions for direct insurance from local brokers and agents for a balanced onshore tech lines portfolio (oil & gas, petrochemicals, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, utilities, process industries, mining, steel, and pulp & paper) and commercial property and construction insurance.
* underwrite property, technical lines and construction direct insurance business in mexico with delegated authority and support from regional profit centers.
* cross-sell with regional managers for casualty, financial lines, marine and aviation to develop submissions on an inward direct insurance broker.
* prepare referrals to supervise underwriters/managers in home office or the latin america region.
* arrange facultative reinsurance documentation for inward acceptance and outward placements.
* assist in creating target accounts and developing strategies for dealing with such businesses.
* meet regularly with local insurance and reinsurance brokers, insurance companies, and risk managers/insureds.
* assist in preparing reports to comply with local insurance regulations.
* perform loss control activity in mexico.
required skills and qualifications
to be successful in this role, you will need the following skills and qualifications:
* bachelor's degree or equivalent.
* more than four years of underwriting experience in property / technical lines / construction insurance and/or reinsurance.
* satisfactory knowledge of the mexican insurance market for property technical lines and construction.
* ability to work largely unsupervised.
* ability to multi-task and prioritize workflows efficiently.
* teamwork.
* effective negotiations and management skills.
* computer literate in excel, word and powerpoint.
* practical experience of using underwriting rating tools and methods, including catastrophe risk modelling and pricing.
* excellent knowledge of relevant policy wordings.
* extensive knowledge of mexico insurance market, its main brokers and agents for property technical lines and construction.
* comprehensive understanding of natural catastrophe exposures, especially earthquake, windstorm, tsunami, and flood.
* proficient in spanish and english.
* ability and willingness to travel inside and outside mexico as required.
