about the role
the compliance & regulatory engineering lead is responsible for ensuring that all product designs meet applicable regulatory, safety, and certification requirements. This role leads compliance strategy across product development, ensuring alignment with standards such as ul, csa, doe, and other north american regulations. The ideal candidate will work cross-functionally with design engineering, quality, manufacturing, and external certification bodies to drive compliance from concept through production.
key responsibilities
* lead regulatory compliance activities for new and existing product designs.
* ensure adherence to standards such as ul, csa, nec, doe, and other applicable regulations.
* act as the primary liaison with certification agencies (e.g., ul) and regulatory bodies.
* integrate compliance requirements into the product design and development lifecycle.
* review engineering documentation, drawings, and specifications to ensure compliance.
* support product testing, validation, and certification processes.
* monitor changes in regulatory requirements and ensure timely implementation.
* drive risk assessments and corrective actions related to compliance issues.
* provide technical guidance to engineering teams on regulatory requirements.
* support audits (internal/external) and ensure proper documentation and traceability.
* collaborate with cross-functional teams (quality, manufacturing, sourcing) to ensure compliant product launches.
qualifications
* bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, industrial, or related).
* +5 years of experience in product design and regulatory compliance within a manufacturing environment.
* strong knowledge of ul, csa, nec, doe regulations and certification processes.
* experience working in maquiladora or multinational manufacturing environments.
* familiarity with design for compliance (dfc) and product validation processes.
* experience with technical documentation and certification submissions.
* intermediate to advanced english proficiency (written and verbal).
