Purchasing manager job description


job summary

the purchasing manager is responsible for developing and implementing purchasing strategies, managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and ensuring timely delivery of goods and services while optimizing costs.


duties and responsibilities

* procurement strategy development: develop and implement procurement strategies to support the operations of the company.
* team management: manage and lead a team of buyers and other purchasing staff, providing guidance on procurement processes, supplier management, and contract negotiation.
* ssupplier evaluation and negotiation: evaluate supplier performance, negotiate contracts, and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
* inventory management: monitor inventory levels and adjust orders as needed to meet demand.
* cross-functional collaboration: coordinate with internal departments to ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
* process improvement: continuously evaluate and improve the procurement process to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
* market analysis: analyze market trends and identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
* compliance: ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
* supplier relationship management: develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, including negotiating favorable terms and resolving any issues that may arise.


qualifications and requirements

* educational background: bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business administration, or a related field. Master degree desirable.
* work experience: 8-10 years of experience in procurement, with at least 4 years in a leadership role.
* languages: good english communication skills – written & verbal.
* skills: strong project-management skills, computer skills – proficiency in microsoft office suite.


work environment

the role is primarily based in a manufacturing facility, requiring regular site visits and interaction with production teams. Required to wear personal protective equipment (ppe) and adhere to safety protocols. The role involves extended periods of sitting in front of a computer. Occasional standing or walking may be required during meetings, presentations, or site visits. Work is primarily conducted in an office environment with controlled temperature and lighting.
