a.duties & responsibilities
1. complete operational responsibilities for the ongoing operations of the materials/logistics department including as stated below; purchasing/material planning, customer service, shipping, receiving, and materials warehousing, and to follow the strategic directions as established by the general manager, director of purchasing and logistics and senior management team.
2. Purchasing and materials planning: provide direction and supervision to the buyers in the development and release of materials required to support ongoing production. Ensure that the necessary controls and resources are available to provide accurate and timely information to both vendors and the senior management team. Ensure that all blanket po's are reviewed, submitted, and issued to all vendors in a timely manner. Oversee customer build outs and that potential obsolescence is being tracked. Assure that all logistics procedures are strictly observed.
3. Customer service: provide direction and supervision to the customer service representatives. Ensure that the necessary controls and resources are available to provide accurate customer requirements and information to scheduling, production and the senior management team. Assure that all logistics procedures are strictly observed.
4. Shipping: provide direction and supervision to the shipping & receiving supervisor and ensure that all personnel engaged in the shipping function are properly trained for their assignments. Provide the necessary resources required to perform all functions as listed in the individual job descriptions for shipping personnel. The materials manager is ultimately responsible for the accuracy of all shipments and their corresponding documentation. The materials manager is responsible to negotiate all freight, and understand the impact of duty and customs clearance fees for all product shipped f.o.b. destination.
5. Receiving: provide direction and supervision to shipping & receiving supervisor and ensure that all personnel engaged in the receiving function are properly trained for their assignments. Provide the necessary resources required to perform all functions as listed in the individual job descriptions for receiving personnel. The materials manager is ultimately responsible for the accuracy of all receipts and their corresponding documentation. The materials manager is responsible to negotiate all freight, and understand the impact of duty and customs clearance fees for all product shipped f.o.b. Origin.
1. ensure service parts are properly stocked, identified, packaged and delivered on-time.
2. establish, document, and evaluate training for employees in respective department. Update and revise procedures for which you are responsible. Communicate document changes, specifically policy and procedural changes to the employees of your department.
3. ensure that all customer manuals are reviewed and appropriate training has been completed within the logistics department
4. the materials manager is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and presenting the key performance indicators to the director of purchasing and logistics, general manager and senior management team member at specified intervals.
5. provide materials support and authorization to the disposition of nonconforming product as per procedure.
6. control, verification, storage, and maintenance of customer supplied items for incorporation into the final product and to advise the customer of any nonconforming customer supplied product or damaged customer owned materials.
7. ensure immediate action is taken for any dmr and rdr reports to ensure there are no disruptions to ongoing production.
8. ensure that all engineering changes are identified, documented, reviewed, and approved as per the engineering change procedure.
9. any other duty as assigned by the director of purchasing and logistics, general manager or senior management team member.
10. release raw materials to/from vendors in order to support ongoing production.
11. expedite required materials to support ongoing production.
12. meet and maintain minimum inventory levels as set by management.
13. interface with production supervision, customer service, production scheduling, other buyer's and receiving to support production and to avoid line shortages or missed shipments to customers.
14. monitor and analyze lead times and delivery performance.
15. ensure accurate and real time inventories by ensuring that all receipts are updated daily and by performing daily cycle counts.
16. responsible for championing all physical inventories
17. follow the policies and procedures of the materials management department and iatf 16949.
18. abide by company health and safety regulations.
b.minimum qualifications
1. bachelor´s degree in engineering, logistics, ba or similar
2. able to maintain fluent business conversation in english
3. minimum of 5 years experience in logistics department of automotive industry
4. proficiency experience in purchasing (direct and mro), customer service, import and export, material handling, warehousing and receiving
c.required skills
1. leadership, organizational, mentoring and supervisory skills.
2. drive and "hands on" behavior
3. computer literacy in microsoft office and erp systems.
4. understanding of automotive supplier expectations and requirements. (toyota, stellantis, gm, ford, vw, audi)
5. complete understanding of the ts16949 policies and procedures required for the materials department as well as other related procedures including; quality, process, and management disciplines.
6. understanding of all aspects of the various logistics departments (purchasing, customer service, shipping, storage)
7. excellent communication skills.
8. understanding of key quality & environmental management systems procedures related to job function.
