Our client, a global leader in professional tools and materials for the construction industry, is seeking a supplier quality engineer (sqe) for its matamoros manufacturing facility.position summarythe supplier quality engineer (sqe) is responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of all materials, components, and outsourced products supplied to the plant.
this role focuses on supplier qualification, process audits, incoming material inspection systems, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure suppliers consistently meet company standards for construction fasteners such as nails, screws, and anchors.key responsibilitiessupplier management & qualificationevaluate, qualify, and develop new suppliers according to company quality standards and regulatory requirements.conduct supplier audits and process capability assessments to ensure adherence to quality, process control, and manufacturing consistency.maintain the approved supplier list (asl) and monitor supplier performance metrics (ppm, otd, ncrs, etc.).
quality control & assurancedefine and implement incoming inspection plans, sampling procedures, and testing methods for raw materials, coatings, and packaging.investigate and resolve supplier-related non-conformances using structured problem-solving tools (8d, 5-why, ishikawa).
review and approve supplier ppap (production part approval process) submissions, fai (first article inspection), and control plans.continuous improvement & cost reductionwork collaboratively with suppliers to drive process improvements, defect reduction, and cost-saving initiatives.support lean and six sigma projects targeting quality improvement and waste reduction across the supply base.technical supportprovide technical guidance to suppliers regarding specifications, tolerances, and manufacturing standards related to fasteners and anchors.collaborate with engineering, purchasing, and production teams to ensure design for manufacturability and quality alignment.compliance & documentationensure supplier compliance with iso *, iatf *, and relevant astm or din standards for fasteners.maintain accurate documentation of audits, corrective actions, and supplier performance records.qualificationseducation: bachelor's degree in mechanical, industrial, or materials engineering (or related field).
experience: minimum 3–5 years in supplier quality or manufacturing quality in a metalworking or fastener industry environment.technical skills:strong understanding of machining, cold forming, heat treatment, plating, and coating processes.knowledge of metrology, gd>, and mechanical testingmethods.familiarity with quality tools: fmea, spc, msa, control plans, ppap, 8d, and root cause analysis.certifications: iso * auditor, six sigma green belt, or asq cqe certification preferred.language: fluent in spanish and english (written and spoken).
other requirements:strong communication and negotiation skills with suppliers.willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to 25%).
