This apprenticeship includes a work placement at a popular dive centre located on mexico’s caribbean coast and specific training in marine conservation.
your first 12 weeks of training
the first portion of this apprenticeship is a marine conservation expedition. Apprentices join gvi staff and other participants from around the world to learn about and contribute to ongoing marine conservation initiatives in the riviera maya. Apprentices learn and practise underwater monitoring techniques, species identification, and conduct coral reef surveys. You will earn padi advanced open water diver (if not already earned) and the padi coral reef restoration diver (crrd) distinctive speciality. Throughout this phase you are trained up to rescue diver level by gvi’s on‑site dive instructor.
your three‑month work placement
successful completion of the training places apprentices at a popular dive centre on mexico’s caribbean coast. Apprentices gain experience selecting dive sites, leading dives, and teaching dive lessons. They also raise awareness of marine conservation among international visitors. Work placement provides the experience required to prepare for the divemaster qualification.
