Job description : position overview: the senior cost accountant role is responsible for managing, analyzing, and optimizing inventory valuation and manufacturing costs for multiple manufacturing sites in mexico and u.s. plant.
the position supports global reporting requirements while serving as a key financial partner to operations and supply chain teams across regions.
this role drives inventory accuracy, cost visibility, and margin performance, and ensures consistency in costing methodologies and inventory controls across all supported locations.
the incumbent must be comfortable working in a multi-site, cross-border manufacturing environment and able to improve reporting and processes in a fast-paced setting.
essential duties and responsibilities: provide cost and inventory accounting support to manufacturing plants in mexico and the united states, ensuring consistent application of costing and inventory policies.
analyze manufacturing costs, inventory movements, and production variances to ensure accurate inventory valuation and financial reporting.
own and support multi-site inventory accounting processes, including reconciliations, adjustments, excess and obsolete reserves, and cycle count variance analysis.
prepare and analyze cost of goods sold (cogs), inventory roll-forwards, and production cost reports by plant, highlighting key drivers, variances, and trends.
support standard cost setting, annual cost roll processes, and variance analysis (material, labor, overhead, absorption) across all supported sites.
partner with operations, supply chain, and plant finance teams in mexico and the u.s. to identify cost reduction opportunities and inventory optimization initiatives.
maintain and enhance inventory and cost financial reporting packages for all supported locations, ensuring timely and accurate monthly close.
support balance sheet reconciliations related to inventory and manufacturing costs, ensuring compliance with internal controls and accounting standards.
participate in monthly close, forecast, and annual budgeting processes with a strong focus on inventory levels, production costs, and margin impact by site.
assist in special and ad hoc projects, including inventory optimization efforts, cost visibility improvements, value stream mapping, and financial close streamlining initiatives.
provide actionable cost and inventory insights to management to support operational and strategic decision-making across regions.

cma, cpa and/or mba is a plus.
4+ years of experience as a cost analyst, cost accountant, financial analyst or similar role with a global, multi-site manufacturing company.
knowledge of microsoft office products (especially excel) required.
experience with automated accounting and reporting systems (oracle, data warehouse and hfm preferred), including data extract and report compilation is a plus.
