Qualifications
- high school diploma or ged equivalent - minimum of 5 years of experience as a toolmaker in a high-precision manufacturing environment - conversational in english - expert-level proficiency in cnc programming, edm (electrical discharge machining), and various machine tools, including but not limited to lathes, milling machines, grinders, and boring machines - advanced knowledge in blueprint and process sheet interpretation, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (gd&t), and high-precision measuring tools - experience in tool design using cad/cam software - strong analytical skills to identify, diagnose, and resolve quality or performance issues - mathematical ability to perform calculations involving decimals, ratios, and trigonometric principles - solid understanding of material properties used in tooling and fixtures under various manufacturing conditions - excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for precision machining - detail-oriented and methodical to ensure accuracy and precision
responsibilities
- read and interpret blueprints, cad drawings, and technical specifications to manufacture precision tools - set up, operate, and maintain manual and cnc machinery, including but not limited to lathes, grinders, and milling machines - perform precise measurements using calipers, micrometers, and other inspection tools to ensure accuracy - work with tight tolerances and fine finishes - design, create, assemble, repair, or modify tools, dies, fixtures, and templates to meet production needs - diagnose tool issues and collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve them - make decisions and solve problems under pressure - maintain accurate documentation of modifications, repairs, and preventive maintenance schedules - train and mentor junior toolmakers and other production staff as needed - ensure all work complies with quality control standards and safety regulations - proactively work to improve efficiency and product quality
