Sustainable energy (solar) curriculum adviserlocationnuku'alofa / tongaprogram backgroundtonga's department of energy (doe) sits within the ministry for meteorology, energy, information, disaster management, environment, climate change and communications (meidecc). The ministry is the custodian of the tonga energy road map plus (termplus) 2021 – 2035 which lays out the key targets, approaches and actions needed to decrease tonga's dependence on fossil fuels and deliver an affordable, accessible, inclusive, resilient, sustainable and secure energy system.tasp is supporting the department of energy (doe) to develop a national certificate iv in sustainable energy (solar) in conjunction with tonga national university's (tnu) school of science and technology (sst). The australian government has also committed to establishing a national solar training facility in tongatapu.the project will require engagement with multiple stakeholders including:· the sustainable energy industry association of the pacific islands (seiapi)· the pacific centre for renewable energy and energy efficiency (pcreee), based in nuku'alofa and co-hosted by the pacific community (spc).· tonga power limited (tpl)· tonga energy commission (tec)· tonga national qualifications and accreditation board (tnqab)· government ministries· private industriesabout dt globalat dt global asia pacific, we aim to positively impact people's lives through delivery excellence. With over 1,500 staff, experts in 22+ countries and more than 60 years of development experience, we tackle complex community, national and transnational challenges — from governance and justice systems to climate resilience, infrastructure and social equity — with innovative thinking and a commitment to long-term impact.for more information, please see the rolethe adviser will use their technical expertise and experience in renewable energy training in the pacific to design and develop a national certificate in solar energy level iv to be delivered by the tnu's school of science and technology (sst).the adviser will work closely with doe, sst, tnqab and industry stakeholders to ensure the course aligns with plans for sustainable course delivery, meets national accreditation requirements and is contextualised for the tongan setting.graduates of the certificate iv in sustainable energy (solar) will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to design, install, repair and maintain domestic and commercial solar energy systems.the sustainable energy (solar) curriculum adviser will be responsible for the following activities:lead the design and development of sustainable energy (solar) training curricula (including units that make up the national certificate) and learning materials tailored for the tonga context.work with tnqab and relevant stakeholders to navigate the accreditation process.collaborate with government agencies, training institutions, private industry stakeholders, and community partners as well as tonga power ltd and tonga energy commission to ensure curriculum relevance, quality, and alignment with practical needsdeliver training workshops and support trainers responsible for delivering the program.support the integration of gender equality, disability inclusion, and social inclusion principles in solar energy training.monitor and report on curriculum implementation progress and outcomes, providing inputs for periodic reviews and updates.work independently and efficiently, reporting directly to the tasp deputy director - programs on progress, challenges, and needs.facilitate partnerships and networks within the renewable energy training ecosystem in tonga and the broader pacific region.support change management and communication strategies related to solar energy skills development.additional duties:be prepared to take on duties not specifically mentioned but within the expected capacity, qualifications, and experience for the position.be collaborative and flexible, willing to assist others during peak periods and absences.
