Components engineer - obsolescence management specialist
about the role:
we are seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient components engineer to lead the obsolescence management of products and parts within our systems. This role involves analyzing and managing part obsolescence in coordination with the product lifecycle management (plm) and enterprise resource planning (erp) systems.
key responsibilities:
* monitor the lifecycle status of electronic and mechanical components using tools and manufacturer databases.
* identify at-risk or obsolete parts and develop strategies for mitigation and replacement.
* lead efforts in replacing or requalifying obsolete components to ensure uninterrupted production and support.
* maintain and update part data in plm and erp systems, tracking component usage across bills of materials (boms), and manage change requests (ecrs/ecos) as needed.
* work closely with design engineering, procurement, supply chain, and quality teams to assess impact and define resolution plans for obsolescence issues.
* liaise with manufacturers and distributors to verify part status, last-time buys, and available replacements.
* generate and maintain obsolescence status reports including number of affected parts, product impact, risk assessment, and mitigation plans.
* ensure all changes and decisions are documented per company standards and meet regulatory and industry compliance requirements.
requirements:
* 3-5 years of experience in a components engineering, product lifecycle, or obsolescence management role.
* hands-on experience with plm systems (e.g., windchill, teamcenter, agile) and erp systems (e.g., sap, oracle).
* strong understanding of component lifecycle, bom structures, and configuration management.
* familiarity with part libraries and industry databases (e.g., siliconexpert, ihs, octopart).
* excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.
* ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
preferred qualifications:
* experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, or other high-reliability industries.
* experience with change management processes (ecr/eco) and document control.
* bachelor degree.
* conversational english level.
