*trade compliance specialist*
position summary
we are seeking a trade compliance specialist to support our import and export operations while ensuring compliance with applicable customs regulations and trade requirements.
this position will serve as a key point of contact between internal teams, customs brokers, and logistics providers to ensure efficient and compliant cross-border transactions.
*responsibilities*
- coordinate import and export shipments from origin through customs clearance and final delivery.
- review and approve trade documentation, including:
- customs declarations (pedimentos)
- certificates of origin (usmca/t-mec)
- commercial invoices and supporting documentation
- ensure compliance with mexican customs law (ley aduanera), usmca/t-mec requirements, and immex regulations when applicable.
- maintain accurate hs classifications and customs valuation records.
- work closely with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and carriers to facilitate shipment movement.
- resolve customs clearance issues and documentation discrepancies.
- monitor import/export activities to ensure compliance with company policies and government regulations.
- support internal and external compliance audits.
- maintain organized trade compliance records and documentation.
- provide guidance to internal stakeholders regarding import/export requirements and compliance processes.
*qualifications*
- bachelor's degree in international trade, supply chain, logistics, business administration, or a related field preferred.
- 3-6 years of experience in trade compliance, customs operations, import/export, or international logistics.
- strong knowledge of:
- mexican customs regulations (ley aduanera)
- usmca/t-mec
- immex program (preferred)
- hs classification and customs valuation
- experience working with customs brokers and freight forwarders.
- erp experience required; sap preferred.
- strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
