position overview
we are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive compliance manager north latin america (latam data protection officer) to manage data protection and privacy compliance across multiple latin american jurisdictions, including argentina, colombia, el salvador, guatemala, honduras, mexico, panama, peru, and the dominican republic. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of mexico’s lfpdppp and a working understanding of privacy and data protection laws across the region. The dpo will be responsible for developing and enforcing internal privacy policies, handling data subject requests, supporting business teams on compliance matters, and serving as a liaison with relevant regulatory authorities.
key responsibilities
* ensure ongoing compliance with mexico’s lfpdppp and equivalent data protection or privacy laws in assigned latam countries.
* maintain and update regional data privacy policies, privacy notices, consent frameworks, and risk assessments.
* oversee data protection impact assessments (dpias) and data processing audits across jurisdictions within onetrust.
* respond to data subject access requests.
* monitor and interpret new or updated data protection regulations across the region.
* support legal and procurement teams in reviewing vendor contracts for privacy and data security compliance.
* lead internal privacy training programs tailored for business units in different jurisdictions.
* partner with it and cybersecurity teams to assess risks and implement data protection safeguards.
* manage relationships and communications with regulatory bodies (e.g., inai in mexico, sic in colombia, aaip in argentina, etc.).
* collaborate with regional hr and marketing teams to ensure lawful handling of employee and consumer data.
* contribute to incident response and breach notification processes in accordance with local laws.
qualifications
* bachelor’s degree in law, public policy, compliance, or a related field.
* 3–5 years of experience in privacy, data protection, or regulatory compliance within latin america.
* strong command of mexico’s lfpdppp and working knowledge of at least two other latam data privacy frameworks (e.g., colombia’s law 1581, peru’s law no. 29733, argentina’s personal data protection law).
* fluent in spanish and english.
* hands-on experience or strong familiarity with onetrust or similar grc/privacy platforms to conduct privacy assessments, handle incidents and data subject rights, and support contract reviews.
* experience supporting cross-functional projects in a global corporate organization.
