About the role:
The Director oversees a team of Engineering and Maintenance specialists responsible for all engineering operations for interior/exterior facilities including plumbing, refrigeration, heating/cooling, painting, carpentry, structural, recycling, electrical, ground care and parking areas. The Director is also responsible for Life/Fire safety systems, energy/green initiative systems and management of other engineering work necessary to maintain the property in an efficient condition to ensure the safety and comfort of guests and employees.
Responsibilities
- The ability to communicate effectively with construction contractors, owners, and owners’ representatives on a construction site to ensure Four Seasons product during construction.
- The ability to understand and submit change order requests without compromising Four Seasons contractual agreements.
- The ability to foresee mechanical concerns that may arise as a result of construction phase equipment purchases and/or installations.
- The ability to ensure Life, Fire, Safety equipment and installations are up to standard and feasibility studies during the construction phase for early detection and change orders implementation.
- Experience in the construction phase area to secure retrieval, and filing of construction documents, permits, licensing, feasibility studies, and manuals, mechanical, electrical, wiring diagrams, hydraulics, blueprint updates, and testing and storage of necessary equipment and material parts, etc.
- Manage engineering staff, including recruiting, training, counseling, disciplining, terminating and completing performance evaluations.
- Identify and implement processes to improve the consistency of service excellence.
- Perform quality control checks, ensuring the safety and effectiveness of mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems and any other related equipment.
- Assign and verify completion of all routine maintenance on public spaces, meeting rooms, outlets, back-of-house spaces and grounds.
- Oversee all external contractors to ensure work is carried out to the highest standard within the allocated timescale.
- Maintain an appropriate supply of materials/equipment to carry out the normal day-to-day operating and maintenance requirements of the hotel.
- Assist General Manager with annual Capital Plan development.
- Research and make final decisions on suppliers, design and production.
- Plan, budget, monitor and regularly report on projects.
- Work closely with the engineering team and compare financial outlay on reactive against preventive maintenance.
- Drive asset lifecycles with preventative maintenance projects, and reduce critical building issues.
- Negotiate mass purchases for ongoing and new projects and minimize spending year after year.
- Manage and communicate timelines and budgetary constraints with subcontractors.
- Design and coordinate site development, ensuring the scopes of the projects are sound.
Qualifications
- Applicants are required to have five years of previous management experience in Resorts or building engineering maintenance.
- Qualifications are required either a professional degree in an engineering discipline, or a trade degree in a specific technical field relating to engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Civil Engineering).
- Demonstrate adaptability to live in a remote location.
- Excellent English and Spanish (preferred).

Schedule & Hours
- This is a full-time position.
- This role primarily works Monday through Friday, although may be asked to work other shifts, based on business volume.
