first brands group is hiring for a packaging engineer for our packaging division for our office in ciudad juarez, chihuahua

this role, reporting to the packaging manager, will be primarily focused on lead design and development of packaging specification and functional performance product packaging for new and existing products that support new business commercialization activities. In addition, this role will undertake periodic review of current structures and existing packaging design to improve form, fit, function to deliver solutions in consideration of total cost optimization and application of standard methods and tools considering customer standards and sales requirements cost savings.

purpose:

this role will be primarily focused on the specification and functional performance of product packaging for new products that support business commercialization activities. This will include consumer facing, and shipping packaging including flexible/rigid packaging, cartons, displays and brown-box and display corrugated. This role will work closely with internal resources, packaging suppliers and customers to deliver functional, cost effective and innovative packaging. The packaging engineer will provide the key link between the product engineering, product management, marketing and sales groups as well as the procurement and sourcing teams. Working closely with the project managers, this position will lead packaging projects from concept through execution.

responsibilities and activities:

* manage the packaging development process, including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development and specification and testing.
* build strong internal and external relationships with key business partners to support new product launches and key initiatives.
* lead the packaging portion of new or existing finished product specifications including accountability for the specification database.
* coordinate with product development, manufacturing and the customer to specify, test and implement the optimum packaging design for new products.
* perform laboratory tests following written procedures. Publish test reports using the data collected. Communicate clear conclusions and recommendations based on test results. Create new test procedure when no test procedure exists.
* provide technical support, including leading line trials, to operations and engineering through the development and commercialization of a new product, and as needed thereafter.
* analyze engineering drawings and specifications of product to determine physical characteristics of item, special handling, environment and safety requirements and type of materials required for packaging.
* troubleshoot new and existing packaging problems involving design, material, and processes, providing timely creative and cost-effective solutions.
* identify and support implementing cost savings initiatives related to existing packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage.
* collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop packaging specifications that meet quality standards and align with customer expectations.
* conduct packaging tests and manufacturing evaluation ensuring the development of safe and effective packaging with scientific methods.
* collaborate with manufacturing teams to troubleshoot challenges and maintain consistent packaging performance during the manufacturing processes.

basic requirements

* bachelor's degree is required. (packaging or mechanical engineering, or related field preferred)
* at least of 5 years of experience in packaging functions, preferably in the automotive or
* experience in conducting packaging trials. With the ability to optimize the package design attributes.
* excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
* strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with focus on data-driven decision-making.
* excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
* ability to work a fast-paced, dynamic environment while maintaining attention to detail and ensuring high-quality deliverables.
* understanding of process improvement and quality improvement concepts
* ability to multi-task and possess sense of urgency to meet time-sensitive deadlines.
* must be able to work independently and in a team.
* reduce supply risk associated with packaging operations and process.
* stay updated on packaging types/technology and equipment.
