Summary - as a capacity rep, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with carrier partners to ensure efficient freight movement.
you will negotiate rates, secure transportation capacity, and provide exceptional service to meet customer needs.
this role requires strong communication, negotiation skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving in a fast-paced logistics environment.
key responsibilities
- build and maintain relationships with carriers to secure transportation capacity.
- negotiate competitive freight rates while ensuring profitability and service quality.
- source and onboard new carriers to expand the carrier network.
- coordinate freight movement and manage shipment tracking from pickup to delivery.
- track shipping containers and notify the team and carriers when they become available at the port.
- track shipping containers after they have left the port to ensure they are returned in a timely manner.
- gain knowledge of shipping container management with the ability to report delays or early arrivals.
- schedule transportation appointments with shippers and receivers.
communicate and gain knowledge of that process.
- resolve carrier related issues such as delays, service failures, or capacity shortages.
- monitor market trends and capacity fluctuations to optimize carrier procurement strategies
- utilize transportation management system (tms) and other tools for load booking and tracking.
- collaborate with internal teams such as account managers, operations and track & trace to meet customer requirements.
- ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
- communicate with carrier sales team lead and account managers to provide updates regarding any uncovered loads.
qualifications & skills
- 1+ years of experience in carrier sales, logistics, or freight brokerage preferred.
- strong negotiation and communication skills.
- ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- proficiency in transportation management systems (tms) and microsoft office suite.
- excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

- knowledge of freight markets, pricing strategies, and industry regulations is a plus.
