Supplier quality assurance engineer is responsible for the performance in terms of quality metrics of the supply base and works at the global propulsion plants as a liaison between the manufacturing plant, sq&d team and suppliers. The role will be accountable for the timely problem solving and containment activities on the floor, support approval of robust and error proofed manufacturing process of gm purchased components based on build-in quality system principles (biqs), ensuring acceptable capability (capability index-cpk or performance index ppk according to product specification) and sufficient capacity (demonstrated production rate according to supplier daily capacity-sdc documented on customer contract) while predicting and preventing failure modes and ensuring defect containment taking as standards the applicable procedures, gm1927 apqp / biqs and the aiag related documents.
In addition, the sqa should drive and lead the immediate reaction at the suppliers manufacturing site to situational problems associated with quality or capacity non-conformances impacting gm customers pushing for effective containment, true root cause identification, irreversible corrective action and institutionalization of lessons learned. The sq evaluation of the supplier manufacturing process must result in the continuous improvement at a systemic level (quality system) and therefore facilitate the following metrics are met: no major disruptions, reduction of prrs, flawless launch, warranty improvement, cost reductions. Work involves functioning as technical liaison between purchasing, engineering, manufacturing and suppliers; to resolve quality issues, implement and monitor advanced quality planning and providing technical support. Applies diversified knowledge of quality engineering principles and practices to produce and/or coordinate the solutions to complex problems. Considerable creativity and initiative is required. Independent judgment is normally required with some direction from the supervisor. May exercise some technical direction over others. Progressive experience in lower level positions and/or advance engineering degrees and outside related experience are required. Alignment to gm procedures and requirements.
Plan and execute apqp & current tasks according to the gm1927 sq manual and gvdp timing:
1. Lead the supplier understanding of product quality requirements. (sq sors / part specific sors, product specifications and applicable standards).
2. Participate in technical reviews to ensure only capable suppliers are awarded new business.
3. Confirm apqp process is utilized and eliminate or escalate known roadblocks. (apqp valves & launch alerts)
4. Review and approve supplier manufacturing processes and quality controls (ppap / pcpa).
5. Ensure lessons learned are documented by the supplier in the appropriate fmea (design, process, system) and ensure the flow chart is linked to the pfmea and control plan.
6. Execute the part qualification and certification process with suppliers within defined deck (ppap).
8. Execute early containment and quality system enhancements through gp-12.
9. Evaluate and ensure new potential suppliers meet the standards for new business. (gpsc sourceability bid list).
10. Drive and lead the immediate reaction at the supplier manufacturing site to situational problems impacting gm customers ensuring effective containment, true root cause identification and irreversible corrective action. (gp-5, drill deep and prr approval),
11. Execute the prr reduction plan by identification of supplier systemic weaknesses and corrective actions drill deep and wide (gm 1927-69) and practical problem solving report gm 1927-48.
12. Drive the generation and read across of lessons learned within the ct / supply base (proc. Spec audit / global read across).
13. Plan and execute the biqs strategy at the assigned supply base driving the correction of detected non-conformities through documented action plans.
14. Function as liaison between purchasing, engineering, manufacturing and suppliers to resolve supplier quality issues and to provide technical support in remediation mode.
15. Improve quality performance of suppliers by conducting workshops at supplier locations, providing technical assistance in developing a quality system, or other technical support as required.
16. Update and maintain required documentation and files (gqts)
17. Review fixtures to confirm they will identify part to print (gm1927-29 gage req. Certification)
18. Participate as member or resource to pdt, cpit or other creativity team specific cross functional teams.
19. Support the execution of supplier business transfers by supporting supplier quality operation as technical and process expert execute communication process that monitors the results of suppliers while providing a foundation to escalate issues through standardized processes.
20. Achieve and maintain supplier certification on build in quality system thro
