position overview
we are seeking a talented and driven design release engineer (dre) specializing in cockpit and instrument panel (ip) systems to join our engineering team in saltillo. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, validation, and release of automotive interior components from concept to production. Operating in a hybrid work model, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, tooling suppliers, and oem customers to deliver high-quality interior systems that meet strict automotive standards.
key responsibilities
* lead the engineering design, development, and release of cockpit modules, instrument panels (ip), consoles, and related interior trim components.
* manage engineering change management (ecm) processes, ensuring all design modifications are accurately tracked, documented, and implemented.
* own and maintain the engineering bill of materials (bom) for assigned vehicle programs, ensuring accuracy and component traceability.
* coordinate with cad designers to guide 3d modeling and 2d drawing creation using industry-standard software like catia v5/v6 or siemens nx.
* develop and maintain design failure mode and effects analysis (dfmea) documents to proactively identify and mitigate potential design risks.
* oversee component validation plans (dvp&r), coordinate laboratory testing, and analyze test results to ensure compliance with structural, safety, and regulatory requirements.
* work closely with tier 1 suppliers and toolmakers to optimize designs for manufacturing, specifically focusing on plastic injection molding and assembly processes.
* support plant launch activities, resolving technical issues on the assembly line and assisting with ppap documentation.
requirements and qualificati
* experience: 3 to 5 years of solid experience as a design release engineer (dre) or product engineer focused on automotive interiors, specifically cockpit and instrument panels.
* education: bachelor’s degree in mechanical, automotive, industrial, mechatronics engineering, or a related technical discipline.
* language skills: advanced english proficiency (written and spoken) for daily interaction with global engineering teams and international suppliers.
* technical expertise: strong understanding of automotive interior architectures, plastics design, injection molding tooling, and fastening/assembly methodologies.
* cad & tools: proficiency in reviewing and packaging data within catia or nx, alongside experience using product lifecycle management (plm) systems such as teamcenter.
* engineering principles: solid command of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (gd&t), tolerance stack-up analysis, and dfmea methodologies.
* soft skills: strong project management, analytical problem-solving, and cross-functional communication abilities.
