in this role, your responsibilities will be:
* coordinate day-to-day import and export activities to support production and customer delivery requirements, ensuring shipments are carried out accurately and on time.
* coordinate the activities of the team responsible for import and export operations of raw materials and finished goods to optimize clearance times and ensure documentation meets mexican and u.s. customs regulations.
* apply correct tariff classification (hs codes), valuation, and documentation according to applicable trade laws and internal policies.
* create and update part numbers in the inventory control system to ensure that item master and inventory information is accurate and up to date.
* monitor the expiration dates of temporarily imported raw materials in the inventory control system (sci) and notify the planning department in advance so that materials can be returned before their temporary status expires.
* perform a monthly audit of the foreign trade department through self-assessment tools, documenting findings and supporting corrective actions.
* ensure proper adherence to import and export procedures and internal work instructions, promoting a culture of compliance and continuous improvement.
* maintain ongoing communication with mexican and u.s. customs brokers to identify any delays in operations and promptly inform the traffic department and other stakeholders as needed.
* track errors identified during import and export operations in order to measure process efficiency, analyze trends, and report this information to management.
* perform the closing of virtual customs entries (virtual pediments) in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring proper documentation and system records.
* collaborate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, and government agencies to resolve issues, clarify documentation, and maintain efficient clearance of goods.
* monitor shipment status proactively communicates delays or risks, and work with internal stakeholders (planning, purchasing, warehouse, customer service, and finance) to implement solutions.
* maintain accurate records and databases for all import/export transactions, audits, and reports, supporting internal and external compliance reviews.
* analyze logistics and customs-related data to identify opportunities to improve lead times, reduce costs, and optimize customs and transportation processes.
* support internal and external audits by providing required documentation, explanations, and process details.
* promote emerson's culture of safety, integrity, and ethical business practices in all import/export activities and relationships with external partners.

for this role, you will need:
* university degree in international trade, international business, logistics, or a related field.
* at least 3 years of experience in an import/export coordinator role or a similar position.
* knowledge of mexican and u.s. customs laws and regulations related to imports and exports.
* practical experience with tariff classification (hs codes) and customs valuation.
* experience working with bills of materials (bom).
* experience using prisma web, oracle, and apps runner.
* proficiency in microsoft office (excel, word, outlook, powerpoint).
* ability to manage multiple priorities with strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and data entry.
* effective communication skills in spanish; english preferred to interact with international teams and external partners.
* demonstrated integrity, respect for confidentiality, and commitment to following company policies and applicable regulations.
* strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional areas such as planning, traffic, warehouse, purchasing, and finance.

• experience preparing and supporting internal or external audits in the area of foreign trade or customs compliance.
