This role reports to the supervisor, nutrition services, providing respectful and individualized service at all times. This includes creating a "homelike atmosphere" by getting to know the residents' names, diets, and preferences, and communicating concerns to the registered nurse and dietitian.
duties & responsibilities
* provide respectful, courteous, and personalized service, fostering a homelike environment by understanding residents' names, diets, preferences, observing eating patterns, and communicating concerns to the registered nurse, dietitian, and supervisor.
* re-thermalize menu items.
* ensure the finished quality of all food products.
* maintain accountability for food safety, sanitation, and food preparation procedures.
* perform cleaning, dishwashing, and set up the dining room; conduct microbial tests on servery and dining room surfaces.
* transport food and dish wagons to and from the servery.
* pick up supplies and products from production, check quality, rotate stock, and discard outdated items.
* train co-workers.
* provide support for special events or functions as per requisitions.
* maintain documentation for audits, food usage sheets, and communicate relevant information regarding residents or operations in writing via the communication book.
* perform other related duties as assigned.
skills & qualifications
essential
* valid food handler certificate.
* relevant experience in healthcare, restaurant, or hospitality food service.
* good organizational and interpersonal skills.
* team-oriented with effective communication skills.
* understanding of the residents’ bill of rights and compliance standards set by the ministry of long term care.
preferred
* completion or enrollment in a food service worker program.

* flexibility to work outside of core hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
* ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs.
