DESCRIPTION
The Junior Interior Architect will support the development of interior architecture solutions throughout various project phases. This includes assisting with technical documentation, producing architectural drawings and elevations under supervision, and contributing to consultant coordination efforts. The role requires developing technical drafting skills, foundational architectural knowledge, and collaboration with senior team members to ensure design intentions are properly documented and executed.
Key Responsibilities
Design Documentation & Technical Drawings
- Assist in developing architectural drawings including floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, and elevations under senior team guidance.
- Support the production of interior elevation drawings, learning accurate dimensioning and material notation standards.
- Help create basic technical details for interior architectural elements including partitions, ceiling layouts, and standard millwork configurations.
- Assist in preparing door and finish schedules using established project templates and standards.
- Support partition layout development and learn to identify coordination requirements with MEP systems.
Consultant Coordination & Support
- Attend coordination meetings with consultants to understand integration requirements between disciplines.
- Assist senior architects in compiling consultant drawing markups and coordination comments.
- Support the team in documenting meeting minutes and tracking coordination items.
- Help organize and maintain consultant drawing sets and correspondence files.
- Learn to identify basic conflicts between architectural and consultant drawings under supervision.
Interior Architecture & Documentation Support
- Assist in assembling construction documentation packages including drawing sets and schedules.
- Support the development of detailed plans and sections by preparing base drawings and templates.
- Help compile material libraries and specification sheets for project documentation.
- Assist in organizing and tracking shop drawing submissions and reviews.
- Support material board preparation and sample coordination for project presentations.
Project Collaboration & Site Support
- Accompany senior team members on site visits to understand field conditions and construction processes.
- Assist in documenting site observations and preparing field reports under supervision.
- Support RFI responses by researching drawing information and compiling relevant documentation.
- Help maintain project drawing logs and revision tracking systems.
- Learn to apply industry standards and building code requirements through project work.
REQUIREMENTS
Professional Development
- Develop proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and other architectural software through project application.
- Build understanding of construction documentation standards through hands-on drawing production.
- Learn consultant coordination processes through meeting participation and drawing reviews.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Interior Architecture, Architecture, or a related field.
- 0-2 years of experience in interior architecture or architectural practice (internships included).
- Basic knowledge of architectural drawing conventions and construction documentation.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit; eager to develop advanced technical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow drawing standards and guidelines.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
