Job summary
as a regional category manager, americas, you will define and implement strategies for critical raw materials on a regional basis by creating strategies, negotiating key deliverables, and administering contracts that meet operational and functional business goals. You will identify opportunities to enable ppg growth, improve productivity, and establish a more sustainable footprint, while supporting ppg’s global operations. The role is highly visible and interacts with the americas director of procurement and global procurement. Ppg’s procurement organization manages approximately 11b usd of spend.
key responsibilities
* establish and align sourcing strategies by country and region for designated categories, adhering to category manager best practices and implementing the strategy.
* take responsibility to analyze markets and advise business partners in sbus of the +/- of each potential strategy, becoming ppg’s expert on your category.
* master category area knowledge base, including upstream source generation through downstream distribution outlooks for timely reactions to market changes and to set ppg’s strategic sourcing direction.
* manage competitive contract negotiation or price bidding process for total ownership cost reduction, pay term extension, and follow contract agreement approval and documentation process.
* develop innovative sourcing approaches using risk mitigating analytics to determine scenarios, benefits, risks, and change management impact of each option.
* design, deploy, and execute key sustainability performance objectives.
* provide monthly and ad hoc category forecasting & budget input plus raw material index (rmi) forecasted outlooks to present to multiple information networks with ppg.
* update cost saving and working capital improvement projects into savings tracking systems, providing weekly reports as per required format of designated material category on a timely basis.
* share and support, as appropriate, with procurement sbu business partner and site procurement operation team market information, sourcing strategy, key projects, supplier performance and working capital improvement.
* other job tasks assigned by management.
qualifications
* a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, chemistry, or a science related field; an advanced degree such as an mba is desirable, and a minimum of 5+ years of analytics, business, and/or procurement experience is required.
* comfortable with coordination of global initiatives and navigating in a matrix organization across time zones and diverse cultures and working styles; ability to work across cultures and across diverse management styles.
* sophisticated skills in ms excel including building bi, macros, and automating reports and other complex computer and analytical skills.
* other: work proactively & independently and competently troubleshoot supply issues.
