Responsibilities
- Build/optimize processes, routings, and BOMs; drive DFM/DFA with design engineering.
- Create/update work instructions, SOPs, jigs/fixtures, and time studies; close ECN/ECR redlines.
- Deploy Lean/6S, takt/capacity modeling, and line balancing; reduce cycle time, scrap, rework.
- Qualify suppliers, specify tooling, and standardize weld/machining/fab procedures (WPS/PQR). Shop Management
- Lead daily shop operations: scheduling, labor planning, material flow, and OTD.
- Manage and develop a team of welders, machinists, assemblers, and technicians; hire, train, coach.
- Own safety (EHS), quality (ISO 9001 mindset), and preventive maintenance for equipment.
- Track KPIs (OTD, FPY, scrap, OEE, TRIR) and run daily/weekly stand-ups with action plans.
- Coordinate cross-border builds with San Diego; support first articles and customer FATs.
Qualifications
- BS in Manufacturing/Mechanical/Industrial Engineering (or equivalent).
- 5+ years in heavy equipment or industrial manufacturing, 2+ years leading a shop or production team.
- Strong knowledge of welding, machining, fabrication, assembly, and GD&T; comfort on the floor.
- Experience with ERP/MRP (Epicor/NetSuite/SAP), PLM/PDM, and SolidWorks; reading design documents a plus.
- Proven Lean/Kaizen results (cycle-time, yield, or cost-down wins).
- Bilingual Spanish/English strongly preferred.
Nice to Have
- Hydraulics/rotating equipment exposure (pumps, power units).
- Basic FEA/hand calcs, fixture design, CNC programming/DFx.
- Familiarity with WPS/PQR, AWS weld symbols, ASME/ISO quality tools.
