job overview
we are seeking a strategic and results-oriented category manager to lead sourcing and supplier management for assigned commodities. This role is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies, managing supplier relationships, and driving cost and performance improvements across the supply base.
this position reports to the sourcing manager,and it is located in matamoros, tamaulipas site.
responsibilities
as category manager, you will:
* commodity strategy development: design and implement sourcing strategies aligned with corporate and divisional goals to ensure competitive advantage in materials procurement.
* supplier base optimization: locate, analyze, and consolidate local and regional (usmca) suppliers to meet current and future commodity needs.
* supplier relationship management: establish and maintain long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships with suppliers to foster collaboration and continuous improvement.
* performance monitoring: manage supplier performance across cost, quality, and delivery; lead quarterly business reviews (qbrs).
* cost driver analysis: track and forecast key market factors and cost drivers for assigned commodities to inform strategic decisions.
* cost control & risk mitigation: implement sourcing strategies to manage material costs and ensure supply continuity.
* cross-functional collaboration: lead cross-functional teams to assess company-wide needs and evaluate supplier capabilities.
* continuous improvement: drive improvements in procurement processes, including lead time reduction, moq management, and vmi implementation.
* spend analysis & strategic planning: conduct spend analysis and develop procurement strategies based on market trends, geographic factors, and strategic importance.
* innovation & obsolescence management: promote supplier innovation and manage obsolescence to reduce total cost of ownership.
* stakeholder engagement: maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders to support business objectives.
* reporting & kpis: provide accurate reporting on key metrics including price reductions, project savings, blocked invoice resolution (no invoices over 60 days), and supply chain efficiency.

basic qualifications:
* bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, engineering, or related field.
* 5+ years of experience in commodity management, strategic sourcing, or procurement.
* advanced english level.
* strong analytical and negotiation skills.
* proven track record in supplier performance management and cost reduction initiatives.
* experience with usmca regional sourcing preferred.
* proficiency in erp systems (sap) and procurement analytics tools.
