a steel manufacturing company is seeking a aws cwi | sr. Welding engineer responsible for ensuring the structural integrity and reliability of welded components. This role requires strong technical expertise in welding processes, metallurgy, and engineering standards to evaluate weld quality and support production operations.
what you’ll do
* create, review, and maintain welding procedures (wps), specifications, and standard operating procedures.
* inspect weld samples and perform or review non-destructive testing (ndt).
* set up welding qualification tests and maintain welder certifications.
* design and implement fixtures for welding processes.
* provide technical guidance and training on welding methods.
* ensure proper interpretation of drawings and specifications by welding personnel.
* collaborate with engineering and quality teams on ecn and npi processes.
* work closely with production teams to ensure cost-effective and high-quality welding operations.
* evaluate welding equipment and support capital investment decisions.
* troubleshoot welding and quality issues on the production floor.
* support iso certification requirements.
required qualifications
* bachelor’s degree in welding engineering, materials science, metallurgical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field.
* 8+ years of relevant welding experience.
* certified welding inspector (cwi) and/or certified welding supervisor (cws) (aws certifications preferred).
* strong expertise in steel welding, preferably in high-spec environments (e.g., gloveboxes or nuclear applications).
* knowledge of aws welding standards.
* high attention to detail and technical accuracy.
* strong written and verbal english communication skills.
* advanced knowledge of arc welding processes (gmaw).
compensation
* salary: $48,000 - $50,000 mxn per month
